State of the art in peer-to-peer knowledge management
|Titel||State of the art in peer-to-peer knowledge management|
In the project Knowtella we investigate a model for peer-to-peer (P2P) ontology-based management of knowledge artifacts. A knowledge artifact is anything that allows knowledge to be communicated independently of its holder. The envisioned model provides significant advantages compared to conventional knowledge management (KM) approaches: (1) the knowledge owner, called knowledge peer, keeps control of his/her knowledge artifacts against other knowledge peers in an ontology-based P2P computing environment, (2) corporations benefit because valuable knowledge is spread among knowledge peers and is thus not lost even if particular individuals leave the corporation. In this report we provide the state-of-the-art with respect to research efforts and products in the related areas of P2P computing, KM, and combined applications.
