Abstract | This paper is concerned with the increasing technology penetration of our everyday life. Often, it is not clear what these technologies are good for and what value they bring to our life. Especially with the emerging research disciplines of Ubiquitous and Pervasive Computing, it is criticized that research and development is too technology-oriented. Therefore, researchers increasingly claim for more application orientation in these research disciplines. It is shown that and how Requirements Engineering will play a central role as means to equilibrate the imbalance between technology push and application orientation in a (future) world of ubiquitous technologies. The importance of a cooperation with a market-oriented discipline, Product Management, to realize this balance and, therefore, increase the probability for innovations is further demonstrated. |
