Abstract

Teach/Me is an interactive teaching and learning environment that supports the needs of students when learning new subjects. To support gaining an overview over the subject quickly, we integrated an improved user interface, i.e. a Knowledge Landscape. We provide different interaction techniques to suit the users' personal learning styles. A hyperlinked textbook contains the basic explanations; slideshows and animations deepen the understanding. Interactive examples help to grasp the theoretical concepts (such as linear regression) by immediately showing the results of changed parameters. The acquired knowledge can be applied using DataLab, a program for data-analysis that is tightly integrated into the learning environment. All chapters can be accessed using the Knowledge Landscape, which offers a new way of exploring the courses' content. Empirical findings prove that Teach/Me (TM) is an effective way to teach university students. We currently work on a major extension of TM, so that other faculty staff can use the tools we have developed and create learning environments for their students.
